What are they and how can we implement them in World Language Classrooms?

 

Here's an article from Education Week that gives an overview of how the Common Core Standards with impact teaching and learning: Guide to the Common Core key expectations


 

 

Click here for a PDF of the California Common Core Standards in Literacy.  There are 4 categories in each grade division (K-5, 6-12)  

       Grades K-5: Reading (pp. 1-6), Writing (pp. 7-9), Speaking/Listening (pp. 10-11), Language (pp. 12-15).  Page 16 includes a chart showing the progression of language skill development and the range of text types for K-5; page 17 gives examples of literature and informational texts for K-5; page 18 gives a sample of systematically building knowledge of a topic (human body) across the grades (K-5).  

     Grades 6-12:  Reading (pp. 19-22), Writing (pp. 23-27), Speaking/Listening (pp. 28-29), Language (pp. 30-32).  Page 33 includes a chart showing the progression of language skill development and the range of text types for 6-12; page 34 gives examples of literature and informational texts for 6-12.  Reading and Writing Standards for History/Social Science, Science, and Technical Subjects: pages 35 - 38.
